Welcome to Yankee Walkers, Gaited Horses of New England!
The purpose of this organization, as a 501c3 Non-Profit, is to promote the enjoyment of the Gaited Horse on the trail, at clinics, and in the show ring. The use of any method that creates sensitivity or soreness with the intent to enhance or alter the horse’s natural gait (or for any and all purposes) is prohibited in our shows, clinics, trail rides, and other events.
The Association promotes the humane treatment of horses, good sportsmanship, and camaraderie among Gaited Horse enthusiasts. Yankee Walkers promotes flat/lite shod shows, encourages trail riding, and holds educational clinics/fun shows.
Members of the organization strive to educate the general public, encourage, and promote the ownership of the ultimate pleasure horse, the naturally gaited horse. Our roots are in the promotion of the Tennessee Walking Horse, however, the membership and events are open to owners and riders of any and all gaited breeds.
As a regional club of Tennessee Walking Horses, Missouri Fox Trotters, Rocky Mountain Horses, Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses, and Spotted Saddle Horse enthusiasts, we ride in local parades, host gaited-horse clinics, exhibit at horse fairs, such as Equine Affaire, travel the trails, and glide through pleasure and dressage shows on our beautiful gaited horses. With active members located in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Jersey, we are sure to have events and activities near your home, where you can join the excitement and ride the glide with other friendly gaited-horse enthusiasts. Membership includes a Free Subscription to the Equine Journal with our featured monthly affiliates news column. For more information about Yankee Walker membership go to our Forms page and click on Membership Application and Nomination Forms or Contact page.
Yankee Walkers sponsors our own trail rides throughout the beautiful New England countryside, so check our Events regularly for rides near you. To expand your trail riding options, we are also affiliated with:

Through all of these trail riding associations, Yankee Walkers members can accumulate trail miles for Yankee Walkers’ year-end distance mileage awards given every winter at our banquet. Happy trails!
Yankee Walkers is affiliated with both pleasure classes for Tennessee Walking Horses and dressage shows for all gaited horses. Our flat-shod pleasure show series includes classes for the model Walking Horse, the two-gaited Walking Horse, and the three-gaited Walking Horse. Our show series also supports youth classes for Equitation and the two-gaited Walking Horse. Gaited horse dressage shows are open to all gaited breeds. Yankee Walkers members can accumulate show points for Yankee Walkers awards given every winter at our banquet. Check our Events Page for shows near you.
Every year at Equine Affaire in West Springfield, MA, our club members from all over New England unite to present a breed demonstration showing the incredible versatility of the Tennessee Walking Horse and other gaited breeds. Our youth members present a Tennessee Walking Horse breed segment and our synchronized riding team displays the gliding gait set to music. We also host a breed booth packed full of educational material about the gentle Tennessee Walking Horse, including riding, breeding, and training. Come look for us this year at Equine Affaire.
